AIRCON COOLING, HEATING AND CEILING FANS
All doors and windows (apart from the bathroom) must be closed for the aircon to work.
Heating and cooling are provided by the aircon units.
Use the Mode button to choose heating (sun symbol on big remote’s display) or cooling (snowflake symbol big remote’s display). The Temp buttons (up/down arrows) set the desired temperature (20°C is a comfortable temperature).
If the aircon turns off after a few minutes please check that ALL doors and windows are properly closed. If the door or window is slightly open the aircon will shut off, so please double check.
The smaller remote is for the aircon in the main bedroom, the larger remotes control all the other aircon units in the house.
The ceiling fans are controlled by the pull cords – turn the light on first with the wall mounted light switch.
ELECTRICITY
Please Note: The electricity company limits the supply to the house to 4.4KW – if you exceed this supply the power will go off after 15 minutes.
To reset it, turn the main breaker (circled in photo below) on the box by the front door, off, then back on again. You can not have everything on at the same time in the house (eg cooker and all the air con units) – this is not a fault, it is a standard feature of domestic supplies in Spain.
HOT WATER
The hot water is solar. There is an electric booster for cloudy days. The most hot water is available at the end of the day (sunset). During summer there are huge amounts of hot water, not so much in the middle of winter, which is where the electric heater comes in. Please let us know straight away if you have any problems with the hot water.
TV
The TV has Spanish, English and other language channels, received via the set top box beside the TV – the instructions are by the TV. Use the source button on the TV remote to choose HDMI1 GIGA, the smaller remote then selects the channels. English channels start at around 105 (this can change as channels are added or removed). Note that the i+ button (next to the heart) on the TV remote control turns the on screen display on and off – press this button if you have a permanent black banner at the top of the screen getting in the way of the picture.
INTERNET
Broadband internet is via the WiFi router beside the TV. The network name and password are written on the card by the TV and also on the fridge.

To open or close the safe, enter the code and press the key button. You can change the code by opening the battery compartment inside and pressing the red button followed by your new code.

The local food shops are normally open 6 days a week (although some also open on Sundays) – they generally close from 2pm to 5pm for siesta and then re-open until 8pm. The supermarkets are open 6 days a week (some open on Sundays in summer) and don’t close for siesta, staying open until 9 or 10pm (check the times with the individual supermarkets).
SMOKE AND CARBON MONOXIDE ALARMS
The alarms are reliable and generally don’t give false alarms. If one does sound, please check for the cause of the alarm first. If it is safe, you can reset the alarm by pressing the red button. In an emergency phone the fire brigade on 112. Please let us know if an alarm is giving false alarms so we can change the battery or replace the alarm.
WATERSPORTS AND THE BEACH
Burriana is the nearest beach to the house. The easiest way to get there is to walk down to the bottom of the main road one street over from the house (Calle Rodriguez Acosta). This has steps down where you can go all the way down to the small beach that is the western end of Burriana, or you can take the path half way down which then slopes down to Burriana itself). If you have pushchairs you can take the footpath that goes past the Parador hotel (Calle Almunecar), this has step free access all the way to Burriana.
Kayaks, jet skis, parascending, stand up paddle boards and banana boats are all available over at the end of Burriana beach (eastern end of town) and also from the boatyards on Playazo beach (the large beach to the east of Torrecilla). Map links:-
OLD TOWN CENTRE
The old town centre, with the famous Balcon de Europa, is totally pedestrianised and is full of cafes, bars and restaurants, too many to list, but Pulguilla (for seafood in the restaurant or tapas in the bar) and Pinocchio with food to suit everyone stand out (both on Calle Almirante Ferrándiz).
SECURITY
The house is located in a very safe neighbourhood and the town itself is also very safe, but like anywhere, there is petty crime. Please always keep the front gate locked and lock the front door and patio door gate from the lounge when you go out. When out in town, be careful with wallets and purses and if you have a car, don’t leave luggage/valuables on display.
The local police station is at the top of the hill when you turn right out of the passageway (next to the petrol station). The Guardia Civil (main police force) is across the road from the Mercadona supermarket on Calle San Miguel.
DOCTORS
The nearest private doctors are on Calle Los Huertos (the main street down from the house) and have a 24 hour emergency service.
The public health centre with 24 hour cover is on the main road at the top of the hill (Avenida de Pescia). Turn right out of the passageway, walk to the top of the hill, cross to the other side of the main road and turn right. The medical centre is five minutes walk on the left side of the road next to a children’s playground.
In an emergency dial 112.
